On March 4, the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs and the Office of the Vice-President (Research and International) announced the winners of the 2014 Faculty Graduate Mentoring Awards. These awards were established to recognize faculty who render exceptional service to graduate students as supervisors and research mentors. Dr. DeRosa’s students submitted the following testimonials:
• Maria DeRosa is a phenomenal, one-of-a-kind mentor.
• Maria is one of those rare professors who can maintain such a high level of research while adding a giant smile and a refreshing sense of humour to every situation.
• Maria’s magnetic personality inspires numbers of students every year and she is always excited to accept and encourage them. Despite having one of the largest labs in the department, Maria makes sure each student gets the support they need to become successful scientists and people.
• I really cannot adequately express the magnitude of the impact our mentee-mentor relationship has had on my life. Suffice to say, I would undoubtedly not be who I am had I not been fortunate to have Maria as my mentor.
