Join the Office of Community Engagement at their 2018 Community-Campus Idea Exchange

Monday May 14 from 9am-1pm in CIBC Hall at McMaster University

The Network for Community-Campus Partnerships is celebrating 5 years in September, so this year’s theme—Moving Forward Together—will bring colleagues together to share successes, challenges, and lessons learned from projects that will speak to our work together as it relates to the following topics:

  • Building principled and reciprocal community-campus partnerships
  • Community-engaged education partnerships
  • Community-based research partnerships
  • Service in community-campus partnerships
  • Evaluating community-campus partnerships

2018-2019 also marks the halfway point of McMaster’s community engagement strategy. Knowledge sharing will be focused within the context of how colleagues have been pursuing community engagement goals. The specific agenda is as follows:

  • Context: The Network at 5 Years (9:00-9:20): Welcoming remarks from community and campus and community leadership will provide a summary of how far we’ve come in the past 5 years, while also noting some important shifts on the horizon in the coming years.
  • The Community Engagement Landscape (9:20-10:15): A number of short, 2-3 minute, project pitches will share updates on a variety of community-campus partnerships, how they have pursued our shared goals, and what they have learned. This sharing will be followed by a brief discussion to allow for questions and dialogue related to the projects.
  • Coffee Break (10:15-10:30)
  • Moving Forward Together (10:30-12:00): Details on upcoming opportunities for engagement over 2018-2019 will open up into a roundtable session facilitated by colleagues who shared project pitches. Three 30-minute sessions will allow participants to visit different table discussions where the following questions will be discussed within the context of the themes noted above:
    • How did you develop your partnership?
    • What have been the success and challenges?
    • What lessons learned would you share with others?
  • Light Lunch (12:00-12:15): A short break will allow participants to continue conversations and pick up a light lunch before the panel discussion.
  • Panel Discussion (12:15-1:00): A panel discussion featuring senior leadership, community partners from Hamilton and beyond, and campus partners will reflect on the morning’s discussions, while looking ahead to the coming year and beyond.

Feel free to send any questions you may have to Dave Heidebrecht, Manager, Office of Community Engagement.
