Jane Trakalo is a member of CFICE’s Steering Committee. She is the Chair of the Community Studies department at Algonquin College where she oversees 8 programs, all of which incorporate extensive work integrated learning experiences, for over 1300 students. As a social worker and community practitioner Jane’s fifteen year career prior to joining Algonquin College focused on community development and child and youth protection. Jane is a strong advocate for developing reciprocal community partnerships and is an active member of the Canadian Alliance of Community Service-Learning. Jane has developed and implemented community-service learning (CSL) courses and has facilitated CSL student projects both locally and internationally. She has researched and presented on strategies to enhance student engagement through community service-learning, the impact of community service-learning on building global citizens and student success.
