Academic Co-lead, Community-Campus Engage Canada
Michelle Nilson taught high school mathematics and middle school science in Detroit, where she began to wonder about the interactions between K-12 and postsecondary educational structures and systems. She is currently an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at Simon Fraser University, where she works with teachers, community members, and organizations to understand barriers and facilitators towards improving access, finance, and participation policies and practices. She was the co-chair of the C2UExpo 2017, is an Academic Co-lead of the SSHRC funded project, Community First: Impacts of Community Engagement (CFICE) Community Campus Engage Canada and is also in the 9th year of a longitudinal study to understand the development of student aspirations for their future careers and education. She is learning how to crochet and loves to spend time outdoors gardening and playing with her young family.
