Congratulations to Cultural Mediations PhD Candidate Jessica Paola Marino, who was recently awarded the David Rebecca Zelikovitz Scholarship. Jessica is a fifth-year PhD Candidate in the Cultural Mediations program. Her research interests are centred on cultural representations which mark the interconnections of memory between different historical traumas, in particular the Holocaust and the dictatorships in the Southern Cone of Latin America (Uruguay, Chile, Argentina) of the 1970s. Her dissertation examines literary and commemorative projects by Latin American and Jewish Latin American writers, artists, and institutions that interconnect personal and collective memories of the Holocaust with those of the dictatorships in Uruguay (1973-1985), Argentina (1976-1983), and Chile (1973-1990). Endowed in 1991 through a bequest from the estate of the late David Zelikovitz, this scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving graduate student who is studying Jewish culture.
