Awards from funding provided by the offices of the Provost and the Dean of Engineering are available to outstanding undergraduate students in the Faculty of Engineering and Design to gain research work experience in an academic setting.
Student Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for an award, you must:
- be registered, at the time of application, in a bachelor’s degree program in the Faculty of Engineering and Design (open to both domestic and international students); and
- have completed all the course requirements of at least the first year of university study (or two academic terms) and have a CGPA of at least 9.00 (there will be a competitive adjudication process).
Who is not eligible?
- Students holding a higher degree in the natural sciences or engineering.
To hold an award, you must:
- have been registered in the term immediately before holding the award in a bachelor’s degree program in the Faculty of Engineering and Design;
- not have started a program of graduate studies in the Faculty of Engineering and Design; and
- be engaged on a full-time basis in research and development activities in engineering during the tenure of the award.
Supervisor Eligibility
Eligible supervisors must:
- be a full-time tenure-track faculty member; and
- have research funding to contribute supervisor’s portion of the award.
Funding Available
$4,500, plus a minimum of $2,235 from the supervisor.
Project duration: A full 16-week period, full-time during the summer of 2019
If you are an undergraduate student who will be graduating in April 2019 and are applying to pursue your graduate studies in the Faculty of Engineering and Design at Carleton University starting in September 2019, the office of the Dean of Engineering and Design will provide an additional matching fund to the contribution of your supervisor (up to a maximum of $2,500) towards your stipend if you succeed in the competition. Please note that this is contingent upon you having applied to and planning on continuing your graduate studies in the Faculty of Engineering and Design at Carleton University starting in September 2019.

Payment of Awards
Successful candidates will receive payment from the University in accordance with its pay procedures. The University will also issue a T4 or T4A slip (Statement of Income) at the end of the calendar year.
