Carleton University’s Peter Xiaoping Liu, professor in the research-intensive Faculty of Engineering and Design with the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering, was named a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) on June 5, 2023.
Members of the CAE are nominated and elected by their peers to honorary fellowships, in view of their distinguished achievements and career-long service to the engineering profession. Fellows of the CAE are committed to ensuring that Canada’s engineering expertise is applied to the benefit of all Canadians.
“It is a great privilege to be inducted as a CAE Fellow,” said Liu. “Over the past two decades at Carleton, I have had the best opportunity to perform research on different projects with the goal to enhance healthcare delivery and patient outcomes. It has been a joy to see the tangible impact of my research.”
CAE’s selection process is a highly competitive one, spanning the entire country and involving all engineering disciplines. Professor Liu held a Tier-2 Canada Research Chair in Interactive Network Computing and Tele-Operation and has actively contributed to IEEE technical societies throughout his career. He currently has over 470 peer-refereed publications, which has led to numerous citations from other researchers from across the world. Professor Liu is a Fellow of both the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
The CAE is the national institution through which Canada’s most distinguished and experienced engineers provide strategic advice on matters of critical importance to Canada. The CAE is an independent, self-governing and non-profit organization established in 1987.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for June 20, 2023 in Victoria, British Columbia.
