A Mentorship Night is for women students to participate in a roundtable mentorship opportunity with working professionals form leading engineering and IT companies. The focus of this event is how to make your job application stand out. This includes how to structure your CV, prepare for interviews and how to brand yourself to prospective employers. You will hear from leading experts in the field.
Who can attend the event?
We encourage women from all backgrounds and identities to join this Mentorship Night, especially women students in a Carleton University Bachelor, Master’s or Doctoral program, of: engineering, IT, applied science, computer science, mathematics, or physics. We are committed to creating spaces that are welcoming and supportive to women of all backgrounds, intersecting identities, and experiences – including racialized women, women with disabilities, Indigenous women, etc.
Mentors
Anjola Olufowobi holds a degree in Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering from Carleton University. She currently works with the Research team at Gastops as a Junior Mechanical Designer.
As a member of the research team, Anjola supports the overall quality of Gastops products by developing and implementing test plans to validate and verify design requirements and specifications. She also aids the research team in developing new technologies, improving existing products and exploring new applications for Gastops’ products and services. After completing a Mechanical Engineering degree at Carleton, Ben returned to his co-op employer, Gastops, to launch his career.
He applies his design, analysis, and simulation skills to support the Gastops Research Department’s mandate to bring innovative solutions to the fields of condition monitoring and intelligent lubrication systems. As someone often involved in the hiring process, he hopes he can offer some valuable advice on fine- tuning your applications. Susan MacPhail brings over 25 years of expertise in procurement and supply chain management. After starting her career in sales, she quickly transitioned to the “right side of the desk,” where she has led procurement and supply chain teams across industries like high tech, aerospace, and defense.
Currently, Susan is the Supply Chain Manager at Gastops Ltd. in Ottawa, where she oversees procurement, planning, and materials activities for the design and manufacture of diagnostic and prognostic equipment for military and commercial applications.
Susan holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University and has earned both her Certified Professional Purchaser (C.P.P.) and Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) designations. Monica graduated from Ontario Tech University with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 2018. She is now an Advanced Systems Engineer at Honeywell Aerospace, where she has been applying her expertise to a range of projects for the past six years. Harpreet earned her Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carleton University in 2018. She is currently an Advanced Software Engineer at Honeywell Aerospace, where she has been involved in SATCOM projects for over five years. Khadija holds a Master’s degree in financial management and accounting with 9 years of combined experience in Financial and Banking Consulting, and Human Resources. This allowed her to acquire a wealth of skills that support her current career path as a HR professional at the CNSC with particular focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
Khadija is passionate about building strong and long-lasting relationships both personally and professionally and she will always greet you with a big smile and a genuine admiration for who you are. Her most precious possession is her passport that she uses to travel the world. Caileen Dolan graduated from computer engineering at the University of Waterloo in 2020, and now works as a software developer at Ross Video. During her degree, she got to work on a wide range of applications through her co-ops, from power distribution systems to security cameras, and now enjoys working in the broadcasting industry. When she isn’t working, she enjoys volunteering and playing Dungeons and Dragons. Mounika is currently a Hardware Developer at Ross Video, where she has been applying her expertise in electrical and computer engineering since 2021. Prior to that, she worked at Giatec Scientific Inc. in Ottawa, specializing in Bluetooth LE and LoRa technologies. She also participated in several Bluetooth workshops, gaining experience in integrating ultra-low-power, secure Bluetooth SoCs into advanced designs.
Before joining Giatec, she gained valuable experience at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in India, contributing to hardware design and development in digital, analog, and mixed IC domains. Mounika holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carleton University, where she maintained an excellent academic record.
She also published multiple papers in international journals. She has certifications in software development and product testing using Python and is proficient in modeling, testing, and verifying DSP algorithms using MATLAB. Her knowledge of machine learning, neural networks, and data visualization further enhances her ability to address complex engineering problems.
With strong foundations in engineering mathematics—ranging from linear algebra to FFTs, probability, and statistics—she excels in hardware design architecture, including circuit logic, RTL, and simulation verification. Her expertise also extends to physical design aspects such as schematics, layouts, and RF circuit design, with a focus on power efficiency.
Mounika is passionate about sharing knowledge and has mentored students, cultivating excellent communication and interpersonal skills along the way.
Andre Bourgeacq is the Vice-President Transformation Services of CGI. Andre is an experienced service transformation executive who has dedicated his career to helping public sector clients become digital through end-to-end service delivery. With a focus on Canada’s most critical platforms, such as benefits delivery, immigration, and offender management, Andre ensures that these key areas leverage the transformative tools of today. His international leadership experience spans North America, Latin America, and Europe, the Middle East and Africa. With over 5 years of experience as a Sustaining Manager, at Solace, Lina Haibeh leads a team responsible for monitoring automation, managing bug reports, and overseeing releases and merges. Her focus is on ensuring seamless software delivery while maintaining high-quality standards.
