The Faculty of Engineering and Design strictly upholds prerequisites as included in course descriptions in the Undergraduate Calendar as well as in the Engineering program progression maps (noted as arrows between courses).

If you encounter registration warnings or errors indicating prerequisite(s) not met you will need to verify the prerequisite as stated in the calendar vs your record of courses completed.

Some courses have course-specific prerequisite(s) – some prerequisites include a minimum grade requirement and others require a passing grade. A common point of misunderstanding is with Year Status in Engineering prerequisites.

Year Status in Engineering is different than Year Standing

Year status in Engineering includes multiple courses that are required to complete in a specific year of your program requirements and are catalog year* specific. Year standing is a ranking used by the University and is based on the total number of credits completed that are counting towards degree requirements.

Year Status in Engineering

Please select the calendar/catalog year indicated at the top-right of your Academic Audit to view year status in engineering requirements:

201830 and earlier Calendar year

2nd year status: Completion of all Engineering, Science and Mathematics course requirements in the first year of the program, all English as a Second Language Requirements, and any additional requirements as determined in the admissions process.
Note: Complementary Studies Electives and Basic Science Electives are not required for second-year status.

3rd year status: Successful completion of all first-year requirements and 4.0 credits from the second-year requirements of the program.
Note: 3rd year status does not require Science Electives included in year 1-2 be completed – but these Science Electives are required for 4th year status.

4th year status: Successful completion of all second year requirements and 3.5 credits from the third year requirements of the program.
Note: 4th year status requires any Science Electives included in year 1-2 are completed.
