Ice, Ice, Maybe

It’s a gusty, grey morning in late November, and a small crew of Carleton University engineers and scientists are marshalling beside the Rideau Canal, halfway between downtown Ottawa and campus. They’re here to install monitoring equipment that will help them better understand and address the impacts of climate change on the iconic 7.8-km Rideau Canal Skateway, a four-year research partnership with the National Capital Commission (NCC), which manages the world’s largest skating rink.
