**Denotes a course for which a portfolio must be submitted prior to registration. Portfolios must be submitted to english@carleton.ca by Monday, July 31, 2017. Applicants will receive an acknowledgement email to confirm the Department has received their portfolio. Decisions will be communicated by email no later than Tuesday, August 8, 2017. Students are advised to make an alternate course selection until those accepted into workshops are notified. Sample portfolios are available at the links below.

First Year

Many of our first-year courses preclude one another which means credit cannot be earned for more than one course. When selecting courses, please be mindful that you cannot enroll or receive credit in more than one of the following courses: FYSM 1004, ENGL 1000, ENGL 1009, ENGL 1100, ENGL 1200, ENGL 1300, ENGL 1400.

Students are also limited to enrolling in ENGL 1010 or ENGL 1020 as these courses preclude one another.
