Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities Policy

The Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities has developed an updated Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities Policy that reinforces Carleton University’s accessibility commitments and obligations.

Carleton is committed to a culture of accessibility that exceeds compliance requirements and positions the University as a national and global leader. In alignment with the OHRC and AODA, Carleton strives to provide an equitable and inclusive environment where all community members are treated with dignity and worth. In accordance with this legislation, the University also has a legal obligation to ensure accessibility across its goods, services, facilities, accommodation, employment and physical spaces.

Carleton University’s Coordinated Accessibility Strategy (CAS) serves as a framework to guide accessibility initiatives across the university and establishes objectives and strategic actions towards strengthening accessibility and inclusion at Carleton. The University monitors and reports regularly on the implementation of the Coordinated Accessibility Strategy.

Purpose

This Policy outlines accessibility‑related responsibilities at Carleton to ensure the University meets the requirements of Ontario accessibility legislation.

Carleton aims to foster a climate of understanding and mutual respect, recognizing the dignity and worth of every community member so that all individuals feel included and able to contribute fully to the University’s development and well‑being.
