Research Topic

I am working on a project titled “Toward a Métis-Informed Relational Environmental Policy”. The central research question for the dissertation is: How could Métis perspectives on land, resource management, and development be included in Manitoban resource management plans (and broadly the resource management plans that are applicable to Métis at the federal level) to create more relational and decolonized environmental policies? This project aims to examine Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) Citizen’s thoughts on development in Manitoba and whether it corresponds to Métis kaa-tipeyimishoyaahk (self-governance) and Resolution no. 8 as described by the MMF.

Biography

I am a PhD student with European (Irish and Ukrainian) and Métis ancestry. I am passionate about decolonizing natural resource management in Canada, with particular attention to the experiences of Métis in Manitoba. I am currently working towards a career in policy, or other academic pursuits, specifically tied to research interests in natural resource management and Indigenous/Settler relationships. My PhD work has been funded by a SSHRC CGS-D and an OGS.
