Professor Jeff Sahadeo and a group of EURUS MA students travelled to the University of  Toronto April 16-18, 2012, to take part in a symposium on Soviet nationalities post-1945 at the Munk Centre for International Studies. Over the course of the two-day conference, the EURUS students had the opportunity to look on as academics from across North America and Europe presented their current projects. Professor Jeff Sahadeo presented his finished article “Soviet ‘Blacks’ and Place-Making in Leningrad and Moscow.”  Other participants included: Peter Blitstein (Lawrence University); Kate Brown (University of Maryland, Baltimore County), Diana Dumitru (University of Toronto); Adrienne Edgar (University of California, Santa Barbara); William Risch (Georgia College); Zbigniew Wojnowski (University of St. Andrews); Serhy Yekelchyk (University of Victoria); Sergei Zhuk (Ball State University); as well as PhD candidates David Beecher, Svetlana Frunchak, Krista Goff, and Elena Jakel.
