Please join us February 29, 2016 , for a guest lecture by Dr. Milana Nikolko, “Political Trauma: Ukrainian Society and Perspectives of National Reconciliation”. The event will take place from 11:30am-1:00pm in Dunton Tower (room 2017).
Now involved in a dramatic conflict and afflicted by various kinds of social, political, and physical trauma, Ukraine is searching for a new national idea. This presentation considers Ukraine’s national idea is evolving and how talk of ‘the Other’, has resulted in an extraordinary mix of national, Soviet, and global narratives in Ukraine that are in conflict with one another. 
Dr. Milana Nikolko is an adjunct research professor at the Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (EURUS). Her research interests include political legitimacy in post-Soviet space, social capital formation and conflict in multi-ethnic societies, as well as diaspora and horizontal legitimacy in the global epoch. This presentation will be based on Dr. Nikolkos’ most recent publication, where she was acting as author and co-editor of the volume, available here.
