This winter term we are happy to announce our postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Ivan Simic, will be teaching a course on “History and Politics of Gender in Modern Eastern Europe” (EURR 4202/5202 HIST 5212). The course will be held Tuesdays 6-9pm in the Richcraft Hall RM 3302. Registration is open now!
This course will analyse gender policies and practices in the 20th Century Eastern Europe. What were the main conflicts between the Marxists and feminists prior to the Second World War? What was gender equality on communist terms? How did communist regimes approach abortion and family policies? What were the commonalities for gender policies towards Muslim populations? What were the shared gendered experiences across the region?
