Location: | 5010 Nicol |
Cost: | Free |
The Centre for European Studies Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence will host the EU Policy Talk, “The European Green Deal: Opportunities and Risks of Net Zero Targets in Practice”, with Felix Schenuit, German Institute for International Security Affairs (SWP).
About the talk: The European Green Deal, committing Europe to reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, is one of the key policy priorities of the European Union (EU). Even in times of crisis and war, the EU has stood by the Green Deal. This points to the strengths and opportunities associated with this project. At the same time, implementing the Green Deal poses major challenges: Translating net zero targets into tangible policies requires efforts to link climate policy with other policy domains and reforms to key EU policy instruments. This talk takes stock of the progress achieved so far, and identifies the challenges that remain.
About the presenter: Felix Schenuit is a researcher at the German Institute for International Security Affairs (SWP), a think tank for foreign and security policy in Berlin. Based in the Research Division EU/Europe and the Research Cluster Climate Policy and Politics, he works on the European Green Deal with a particular focus on carbon management.
This event is being hosted as an in-person event, and is free and open to the public to attend.
