“EU Responses to the Global Crisis: Challenges for Central European Countries”

Prof. Grzegorz Gorzelak

University of Warsaw

This lecture will be devoted to the performance of Central and East European countries during the financial crisis and the role the EU is playing in overcoming current difficulties of its new Member States.

Grzegorz Gorzelak, is a professor of economics, specialising in regional and local development and policies and is Director of the Centre for European Regional and Local Studies (EUROREG) at the University of Warsaw. He has coordinated several international research projects on regional development, regional policy, post-socialist transition, financial crisis and EU cohesion policy. He has acted as Advisor to the World Bank, OECD, DG Regio, and several Polish and Ukrainian government agencies. He is also Editor-in-Chief of a Polish quarterly scientific journal called: “Studia Regionalne i Lokalne” and is the president of the Polish Section of the Regional Studies Association.
