In honor of the 50th anniversary of The Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies, we are excited to host the ‘EURUS at 50: Lecture Series’, a series of lectures highlighting the visits of regional figures and statesmen to Ottawa throughout the Institute’s history.
The second event in the series, “Mikhail Gorbachev: From Ottawa ’83 to Carleton ’93 (and a few things in between)”, will be presented by Dr. Jeff Sahadeo. The lecture will discuss Gorbachev’s visits to Ottawa and Carleton in 1983 and 1993, examining his political reformism against the backdrop of the Institute’s history and the late Soviet period, and exploring Ottawa’s role in his reputation as one of the most iconic Soviet leaders in the eyes of the West.
This event will take place on Thursday February 17 from 7:00-8:30 pm (Ottawa time) on Zoom.
