Location:Alumni Room Robertson Hall

Piotr Dutkiewicz, is a professor in the Political Science Department as well as the Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies at Carleton University. He will be presenting his analysis of what was discussed during the Valdai International Discussion Club meeting, and what this might mean for Russia as well as its business and political partners in 2012 and beyond.

About the Valdai Club: Once a year, roughly 20 foreign journalists and academics sit down with Russian President Vladimir Putin to ask questions related to Russia’s future. Known as the Valdai International Discussion Club, this meeting has proven to yield the year’s most unfiltered insight into the thinking of Russia’s paramount leader. The focus of this year’s discussion is macroeconomic development scenarios for Russia amid the growing instability of foreign markets and domestic debates on possible ways to reform Russia’s economy. These experts will be analyzing the main trends in the Russian and global economies and the biggest international and national challenges.

In his discussion, Piotr Dutkiewicz will also be addressing his new book Democracy versus Modernization: A Dilemma for Russia and for the World.

Sandwiches and coffee/tea will be served.
