Description:

On the third anniversary of the full-scale military aggression in Ukraine a virtual reality exhibition War Up Close will take place at Carleton University. The exhibition has already been showcased at renowned educational institutions in North America and Europe.

This is Ukrainian Journalist’s Project’s “War Up Close” Virtual Reality Exhibition. Photographers incorporate the use of 360-degree panoramic images, drone footage and 3D modeling to capture the destruction of the war. This technology allows for an emotional and educational experience like no other.

With the virtual reality headsets, visitors can delve deeper into reality and personally experience the horror of the war through immersive looks at the destruction of the cities including homes, schools, museums and other sites. Visitors can “walk” the streets of once images and witness the destructions through the bombed ruins of buildings after the full-scale invasion.

Part of the exhibition will feature artworks by children from the Sunflower Dreams project. Each piece is a small story of children who are refugees from their homes in the war-torn East and South, living in the relatively safer city of Lviv in Ukraine.

The programme is inspired by Lviv art lecturer at Lviv Polytechnic University, Nataliia Pavliuk and her daughter, Yustyna, their tireless and courageous programme to help traumatised children heal through the peace of creating through art.

Each piece of art is a piece of a child’s soul, and nothing stands between a child’s heart and the paintbrush. The children paint with joy, hope, resilience, in the brightest colours. But once you  know how to look, you see their trauma, loss and pain from war.

Let’s preserve history together and share the truth with the world!

FREE entry. No registration required.

This initiative is made possible thanks to the generosity of donors in Canada, and other countries.
