- What movies are being shown as part of the Pop Up Movie events?
-
Fall Orientation will be showing three separate movies during Fall Orientation Week.
- The Martian on September 7 at 8:00 PM – this is a drive-in movie, vehicle is required
- Arrival on September 8 at 8:00 PM
- Ready Player One on September 9 at 8:00 PM
- When does registration open for the Pop Up Movies?
-
We will be accepting online registrations for all movies on September 2 at 9:00am on the Fall Orientation website.
Due to current physical distancing rules outlined by City of Ottawa and Ottawa Public Health, there are limited spaces available and expect to reach full capacity. Interested participants can add their name to a waitlist once each movie registration becomes full.
- Is it mandatory to have a vehicle to participate in the drive-in movie event?
-
Yes – only enclosed vehicles will be permitted to participate in the drive-in movie on September 7. No lawn chairs, blankets, or any other form of outside seating will be allowed at this event. Participants must remain in their vehicles at all time (no sitting on the front hood or in the back trunk of vehicles).
If you do not have access to a vehicle, you can register to attend the outdoor movie on September 8 or September 9 in Alumni Park at Carleton University.
- How will physical distancing rules affect this event?
-
The event will follow Ottawa Public Health and Carleton University to keep students safe. At the drive-in movie on September 7, parking spots will be staggered and participation will be limited to ensure participants can safely distance at the event.
At the outdoor movies on September 8, and September 9, participants are asked to respect physical distancing guidelines, and only sit in groups of up to 3 with individuals in their social bubble (same household, residence floor, roommate etc.). While outdoors, the wearing of masks is strongly recommended for the viewing of the movie, and required for your check-in process. Participants are asked to remain at their seating location for the duration of the movie.
Pre-registration is required for all events.
- Who needs to register for this event?
-
Only the operator (driver) of the vehicle needs to register for the movie on September 7. Anyone accompanying in the vehicle DOES NOT need to register individually, but we strongly encourage anyone attending in the same vehicle be part of the same social bubble as outlined by Ottawa Public Health.
Any student interested in attending the outdoor movie on September 8 or September 9 must register.
Participation for all movies is restricted to Fall Orientation registrants only. Movie registration opens for all three events on September 2 at 9:00 AM.
- Will there be food and/or beverages available on-site?
-
No – there will not be any food or beverages sold on-site.
- Can I register for multiple movies?
-
No – due to the limited amount of spots to enjoy these opportunities, we are limiting participation to only one movie.
- How will I hear the movie from my car at the movie on September 7?
-
The movie audio will be broadcasted through an FM Transmitter. Participants will receive confirmation about which radio station to tune into upon arriving. Participants are recommended to bring a portal radio to use throughout the movie so that you do not need to keep your vehicle running.
- How will I receive my credentials / movie ticket?
-
Registrants will receive their personalized credentials / movie tickets by email on September 7. These are NOT transferable and can not be passed along to other students. Credentials / movie ticket must be PRINTED by participant for easy identification. In order to limit shared spaces, participants are asked to keep their windows up and remain in their vehicles throughout the event.
Should you no longer be able to participate, please contact us at fallorientation@carleton.ca so that we can invite a student from the waiting list.
- Why do you need to know my license plate and vehicle type?
-
License plates will be used to properly cross check registrants with vehicles arriving at a safe, physically-distanced space. Event organizers will be placing larger vehicles in the back row(s); spots will be assigned based on their discretion. Parking spots cannot be changed once assigned.
- I am an off-campus student, can I participate in the Pop Up Movie?
-
Yes! These events are open to all Fall Orientation registrants, but space is limited and is anticipated to reach max capacity. Interested participants who are unable to register successfully are encouraged to register for our waiting list in order to be notified should any spots become available.
- Where are the movies being shown?
-
This event will be taking place at Carleton University at one of our parking lots. Exact directions and details will be sent to registrants with their credentials / movie ticket.
- Do I need to complete cuScreen?
-
Yes. All participants must complete the daily self-assessment before arriving to the movie. Participants attending the outdoor movies on September 8 and 9 will be required to provide vaccine attestation as part of their cuScreen authorization.
Participants will be required to scan in using cuScreen upon entry to the movie and show event organizers that you have been approved to attend campus on your mobile or tablet device.
