Speaker Bios:

Bruce Harvey joined the Ottawa Film Office as Film Commissioner in 2014 when he decided to relocate to his hometown of Ottawa from Calgary, Alberta. A former entertainment lawyer, he started his own production company in 1990 and spent the following two decades producing film and TV projects, working with partners in Italy, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, and France. His film “Almost America”, a co-production with Italy, won a Genie Award (now the Canadian Screen Awards) in 2001 for Best Production Design. As the Film Commissioner, Bruce’s main role is to attract screen-based productions to Ottawa to grow the industry’s economic impact. From tax incentives and co-production structures, to funding and distribution, Bruce’s background as a lawyer and producer gives him unparalleled insight into producers’ needs.

GAPC Entertainment’s Senior Producer, Hoda Elatawi, has created award-winning content in Canada and internationally for over two decades. Hoda’s passion for children’s programming, education, history, social issues, and the arts has united her with producers and writers from around the world and allowed her to work on a diverse range of multi-platform projects. Most recently she produced and directed the award-winning documentary, Muneeza in the Middle; developed Wild Stars (series for Animal Planet); and So You Want to Be a Muslim? (doc for CBC’s Doc Channel). In spring of 2018, she and her team will deliver a concept she created for a live action pre-school series, Are You Ready? (for TVOKids and Knowledge Kids).

André Larivière is a Senior Moving Image Conservator at Library and Archives Canada (LAC). A graduate of Carleton’s Film Studies Program, he has over 12 years of experience working with archival film, video and sound collections. He has worked extensively with motion picture film; processing, timing/colorist (both analog and digital), and conducting conservation work. He has worked on a variety of audio-visual collections, from material created just yesterday, to that created over 100 years ago.

Keltie Duncan is currently the Director of Film Operations at the Canadian Film Institute (CFI), overseeing the on-screen content of all CFI film festivals and screening events. Keltie holds a BFA (Hons) from the Alberta College of Art and Design (Calgary) in Media Arts and Digital Technologies and an MA in Film Studies from Carleton University (Ottawa). In addition to admin roles with other non-profit festivals and organizations, she has spent the past decade in various volunteer governance roles, including president of the Quickdraw Animation Society in Calgary and chairperson of Girls+ Rock Ottawa. Her love of animation keeps her going and her love of drumming keeps her sane.
