Summer Self-Care Challenge

In celebration of International Self-Care Day on July 24th, Healthy Workplace will be highlighting all things self-care throughout the month of July, including helpful information and resources, self-care inspiration as well as the Summer Self-Care Challenge

The Summer Self-Care Challenge encourages the Carleton Faculty and Staff community to incorporate self-care into their daily lives. There are countless benefits to integrating self-care into your life and from what the research tells us, we know that there are different types of self-care. Understanding how each type of self-care relates to your lifestyle and overall health is the best way to ensure you are actively working to feel your best in all areas of your life.

The purpose of this month’s focus on self-care is to shine a light on the behaviors, routines, rituals, and habits that positively impact overall health and wellness, and to encourage the Carleton Community to find small pockets within their days where they can implement self-care in a meaningful way.

Challenge Instructions:

Following the downloadable Summer Self-Care Calendar below, the goal of this challenge is to incorporate self-care daily throughout the month of July. In order to capture each type of self-care and meet the different needs of the Carleton University Faculty & Staff community, we’ve included a customizable self-care calendar to guide you through the month.

Each day of the week highlights a different type of self-care:

  • Monday: PROFESSIONAL
  • Tuesday: EMOTIONAL
  • Wednesday: SPIRITUAL
  • Thursday: PHYSICAL
  • Friday: MENTAL
  • Saturday: SOCIAL
  • Sunday: PRACTICAL

We’ve provided recommendations for a suggested self-care behaviour for every day in July; however, you are certainly not required to stick to this schedule. On Page 3 of the downloadable document, you will find additional behaviours and practices you might wish to explore, providing you with even more inspiration for your self-care journey! Also included is a blank calendar on Page 4 should you wish to create your own.
