Description: Join us for a trauma-informed yoga session led by Olivia Gilmer-Chekosky as a part of Carleton University’s Consent Awareness Week Campaign. This is an all-level yoga class taught from a trauma-sensitive lens, allowing participants choice, and agency over their bodies and practice. This class is suited for all levels of yogis and will offer variations and chose to best suit everyone’s personal yoga practice. Light refreshments and yoga mats will be provided. Feel free to bring your personal yoga mat if you’d like! This session is open to all Carleton University staff and faculty, organized by the Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities and the Office of Quality Initiatives.
Facilitator: Olivia Gilmer-Chekosky is a 200 hour RYT, certified in Yoga Nidra & Trauma-informed Yoga. Olivia has been practicing yoga for over 17 years and believes that it should be accessible to all. She teaches from a trauma-informed lens, also bringing in knowledge she gained from being a clinical Social Worker working in mental health and trauma. Olivia’s experience and training in nervous system regulation, mental health and somatics allows her to bring a unique understanding of how the body can heal through movement. Olivia also believes in creating a safe(r) space for her students to develop their own relationship to Self and to the world around them.
