Just published: Negotiating a River: Canada, the US and the Creation of St. Lawrence Seaway by Daniel Macfarlane
Macfarlane was a SSHRC postdoctoral fellow in the Department of History at Carleton and is currently teaching a course in History as a Visiting Scholar in the School of Canadian Studies. He will be going to a new position as Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position in Environmental and Sustainability Studies at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Negotiating a River looks at the profound impacts of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Project, from the complex diplomatic negotiations, political manoeuvring, and environmental diplomacy to the implications on national identities and transnational relations. For further details go to: UBC Press
Macfarlane is currently working on a book on the transnational history of Niagara Falls, serving as a co-editor on a forthcoming volume on the history of Canadian-American water relations, and working on the history of the International Joint Commission.
