Mary MacGregor, a student in Bruce Elliott’s Canadian urban history/Ottawa neighbourhoods class won the annual 2014 Colonel John By Award for an essay on the plans for a garden city suburb in Old Ottawa South and the site of Carleton campus. Her essay will be published in the Historical Society of Ottawa series. 

The Colonel John By Award in History is a prize of $800, awarded annually to a student in a graduate or undergraduate history course who writes the best paper on a topic concerning the history of Ottawa or the Ottawa Valley.
