James Opp Wins Graduate Mentoring Award

The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs and the Office of the Vice-President (Research and International) awarded history professor, James Opp,  a 2014 Faculty Graduate Mentoring Awards on March 4, 2015. These awards recognize faculty who render exceptional service to graduate students as supervisors and research mentors. The effect of such faculty on the careers of students is frequently transformational.

• Dr. Opp’s work was the main reason that I chose to come to Carleton for my PhD…his commitment to both my work and my well-being has been exemplary.
• Going far and beyond his required duties, he has demonstrated to me how to be a progressive and innovative thinker, while maintaining a high level of professionalism and rigorous scholarship.
• Although his tone is always positive and encouraging, he provides clear opinions and only offers praise where it is due and when it is needed.
• Dr. Opp always seems to have just the right book in his office, or at least the name of an author, that will help me tackle the questions I am confronted with.
