Last December, Dr. Chinnaiah Jangam delivered the keynote speech at the Telangana University’s 2014 Lecture series. There, he spoke about the role of Dalits and other underprivileged peoples in Indian history. Dalits, demonstrates Professor Jangam, agitated against caste discrimination at least 30 years before the rise of B.R.Ambedkar’s movement against caste discrimination and the practice of untouchability. The caste system, argues Professor Jangam, ultimately discriminated against the Dalits in the writing of history as well.
