Many of you contributed generously to the History Administrators’ Anniversary Scholarship in 2014. Encouraged by the support demonstrated, the Department intends, with your assistance, to convert this fund to an endowment that will pay out an annual $1,000 award in perpetuity. To do this, we need to raise $8,800 this year, to supplement the more than $8,000 raised previously (which was double our initial target).

The History Administrators’ Anniversary Scholarship was established in 2013 when all three of our office staff marked the 40th anniversary of their service to Carleton. These were our frontline staff who helped so many students negotiate the treacherous shoals of university and departmental regulations. It is characteristic of their selflessness that they wanted a gift to mark their collective 120 years of service to go to the students and not to themselves.
The Scholarship goes to an outstanding student proceeding from the second to the third year of an Honours BA in History. It provides meaningful support to students as they transition into third year, a critical year for attaining grades for admission to graduate programs and professional degrees. This award differs from entrance scholarships, as it recognizes student achievement in a university setting. The Scholarship has already assisted two of our top students.
With donation matching, even a modest gift can make a big difference
For donations made online to designated Carleton University projects, Carleton University will fully match any donation made until April 30, 2017. All contributions are charitable donations and donors will receive an official tax receipt.
