Rod Phillips publishes on wine in the French Revolution
Professor Rod Phillips contributed a chapter to a new book, Time and Alcohol, edited by Peter J. Howland, and published in the UK by Routledge. The chapters deal with various aspects of time and alcohol and include “The influence of seasonality in the beer-brewing process” and “Accounting for lost time: Alcohol and its after-effects in English diary-keeping (c. 1660-1760).”
Rod’s contribution, “Wine and the disruption of time: The French Revolution,” looks at shifts in vineyard ownership, the regulation of wine quality, and consumption patterns from the Old Regime to the Revolutionary period.
