The minimum requirement for admission to the M.A. in Public History Program is an Honours bachelor’s degree (or the equivalent) with at least high honours standing. In their statement of interest students should clearly outline the academic research project they wish to pursue and explain their interest in the field.

In addition to these core requirements, students in Public History will complete:

One or more of the Public History electives may be replaced by relevant graduate courses offered elsewhere in the University, with departmental permission.

Normally, students will complete most of their course work (3.0 credits) during their first year. In the summer between years 1 and 2, students are placed in a paid internship in the public or private sector. The remaining 1.0 credits of course work (usually two public history electives) and the Research Essay are finished in the second year of the program.
