- How can I ensure my media does not get deleted from MediaSpace?
-
As per Carleton University Kaltura Terms of Use, media that is not accessed within 48 months will be permanently deleted. This is in accordance with the Kaltura Media Retention policy. Content creators will receive an email after their video as been inactive for 24 months, at which point the creators will have 24 months to save the video. Such emails will look something like this:
Name: [Name of media file as it appears on MediaSpace] | Created: YYYY-MM-DD | Expires: YYYY-MM-DD
REVIEW this file (this will not save the file)
SAVE this file for another 24 months (PLAY the video to save it)
Mark for deletion (stops further notifications)However, the underlined text will appear as links. To save the file, click SAVE this file for another 24 months and play the video to save it. Note that the video does not need to play through to the end to save it.
- Why is my upload speed so slow?
-
It may be your internet or it may be Kaltura.
While you don’t need a fast internet connection to download Kaltura Personal Capture or create screen recordings, having a good internet connection is important when you’re ready to upload your media to MediaSpace.
We do not offer support for your household internet setup, but you can test your internet connection speed by going to fast.com. Click the “Show more info” button to see your upload speed. A minimum of 5 mbps is recommend for uploading to MediaSpace.
The time it takes to upload a media item depends on your upload speed as well as the size of the file. Personal Capture recordings that include both the screen and your webcam are twice as large and will take longer to upload and process. Consider capturing only your screen if you have poor internet upload speeds. We also recommend that you use a wired ethernet connection rather than wifi.

- How do I get my Zoom Recordings to MediaSpace?
-
Instructors may choose to record synchronous remote class sessions. These guidelines provide insight into when an instructor may wish to record classes and instruction on how to do so in a way that is consistent with University policies. Students are prohibited from recording class sessions and are also prohibited from the distribution of class recordings.
The instructions for uploading Zoom or BBB recordings into MediaSpace can be found on the Uploading Zoom or BigBlueButton Recordings support page.
- Can I extract the audio from a lecture I recorded with Kaltura Personal Capture?
-
There is no way in Kaltura to “extract” audio from video.
You can download your video files and look for an application that can do so, such as VLC. The audio files separated in this way will be in mp4 format. There is no specific application that TLS recommends.
Keep in mind that both MediaSpace and cuLearn will accept mp3 files. You can upload mp3 files to be played directly in your cuLearn course, or you can use the cuLearn file resource to add them as downloadable files.
There are also other ways to add course content listed on the support site.
- Where can I get a transcript of the lectures I record using Kaltura Personal Capture?
-
You can download a transcript of any media that you record and upload into MediaSpace by following the instructions found on the Capture support site. This will download a text file (Transcript_en.txt). When you download the transcript, the text file name will not be the same as the media file name, and will need to be manually renamed to match.

- Why won’t my Kaltura video play?
-
There are a number of reasons as to why Kaltura videos might not be playing for you. Before troubleshooting, please check Kaltura’s System Status page to see if there is a system-wide issue affecting video playback.
The number one reason why videos won’t play tends to be poor internet connection. You can check your internet connection here.
