Dear cuNorth community,

We have recently received the 2019/2020 call for NSTP (Northern Scientific Training Program) proposals and associated manual and instructions.  I am happy to announce that the cuNorth website (http://carleton.ca/northernresearch/) has been updated with all relevant materials and deadlines for this upcoming round of applications and reports.

The NSTP provides research grants to students in the social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences to help offset the costs of conducting research in the North. Only Canadian citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply and you must be working on an undergraduate or graduate thesis in a degree program at a recognized Canadian University.

If you received NSTP funding in the 2018/19 fiscal year, you are required to submit a report on your research progress, and to account for your use of NSTP funds, by October 31, 2018.  If you wish to apply for NSTP funding for the 2019/20 fiscal year, new applications and draft field safety forms are due by October 31, 2018.  All applications and reports must be submitted using the NSTP online system (https://nstp-pfsn.fluidreview.com).

Newly updated sections of the cuNorth website provide all the relevant instructions and forms to help you:

For details on eligible expenses and how to claim research expenses for current or future NSTP allocations, please visit https://carleton.ca/northernresearch/nstp/travel/.  In particular, please note the maximum timelines for student eligibility to receive NSTP funding (1 year for Undergraduate students, 2 years for Master’s students, and 3 years for Doctoral students).

Other details will be added as they become available, and all who are interested are encouraged to join the cuNorth listserv (https://carleton.ca/northernresearch/cunorth/) to continue to receive updates, among other northern research news items and opportunities.

Students and supervisors are encouraged to work together in completing NSTP reports and applications, and to contact me with any questions well in advance of the October 31, 2018 submission deadline.

Best wishes.

Sincerely,

Gita Ljubicic
