OCSNRS
The Ottawa-Carleton Student Northern Research Symposium (OCSNRS) was designed to give uOttawa and Carleton students the space to present their ideas and research in a low-stress and supportive conference setting. This event is open to undergraduate and graduate students conducting research in the Arctic, Subarctic, or Antarctic.
The conference aims to:
- Offer students the opportunity to present their research and ideas in a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Facilitate scholarly communication among students and faculty.
Le Symposium pour Étudiants en Recherches Nordiques Ottawa-Carleton (SÉRNOC) a été conçu afin d’offrire l’espace nécessaire aux étudiant.e.s de L’Université d’Ottawa et de Carleton pour présenter leurs idées et leurs recherches dans un environnement encourageant et sans-stress. Cet événement est ouvert aux étudiants de premier cycle et des cycles supérieurs effectuant des recherches dans l’Arctique, le subarctique ou l’Antarctique.
La conférence vise à:
- Offrir aux étudiants la possibilité de présenter leurs recherches et leurs idées dans un environnement encourageant, inclusif et sans-stress;
- Faciliter la communication scientifique entre les étudiant.e.s et les professeur.e.s.

The Ottawa-Carleton Student Northern Research Symposium (OCSNRS/SÉRNOC) was designed to give uOttawa and Carleton students the space to present their ideas and research in a low-stress and supportive conference setting.
We warmly invite undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and community members to attend this year’s symposium and support student researchers working in Arctic, Subarctic, and Antarctic contexts.

The conference aims to:

Strengthen interdisciplinary connections across northern research communities.
Each presentation will be ten minutes, followed by a five minute discussion period. A variety of topics and formats will be represented, including built infrastructure, governance, food, culture, well-being, ecosystems, environment, contaminants, and more!

Call for abstracts
We are calling for abstract submissions from students interested in presenting. Case studies, philosophical pieces, literature reviews, conceptual development papers, or completed empirical studies pieces are all appropriate topics for the presentation. Unique presentations not using traditional formats (see above) are also welcome. Each presentation will be limited to ten (10) minutes, followed by a five (5) minute discussion/question period.
The conference will take place at the University of Ottawa Learning Crossroads (CRX) building room 220 and 230 on March 13, 2026.
The abstract should clearly explain your presentation in a maximum of 200 words (not including references).
The abstract should be submitted online no later than February 12, 2026.
We also ask that you submit a headshot and a short bio of yourself to be included in conference proceedings if your abstract is selected for a presentation.
Accepted abstracts will be reproduced in the OCSNRS/SÉRNOC 2026 Proceedings.

Nous appelons pour des soumissions de résumés de projets des étudiants intéressés à présenter. Les présentations données dans le cadre de la conférence peuvent prendre divers formats, tels que l’étude de cas, l’article philosophique, la revue de littérature, l’article de développement conceptuel ou l’article d’étude empirique. Les présentations qui n’utilisent pas les formats traditionnels (voir ci-dessous) sont également les bienvenues. Chaque présentation sera limitée à dix (10) minutes, suivie d’une période de questions de cinq (5) minutes.
La conférence aura lieu au bâtiment Carrefour des apprentissages (CRX) à l’Université d’Ottawa le 13 mars 2026.
Le résumé doit comporter au 200 mots (sans compter les références).
Le résumé doit être soumis en ligne avant la date limite du 12 février 2026.
Nous vous demandons également de soumettre une photo ainsi qu’une courte biographie de vous-même afin que nous puissions vous introduire lors de la conférence si votre résumé est sélectionné pour une présentation.
