Requesting Academic Accommodations

Before you can request academic accommodations through the Ventus Student Portal you must have already completed the intake and registration process with the Paul Menton Centre.

Registration information is available on our Registering with PMC webpage.

Requesting Academic Accommodations

Once you are ready to use Ventus to request your accommodations, follow the steps below.

  1. Login to the Ventus Student Portal.
  2. Before you select accommodations in Ventus, review the evaluation requirements (e.g. test, exams, assignments, presentations, group work, class attendance etc.) for each course. Only request accommodations which are needed for each particular course.
  3. Select exam and/or teaching accommodations from your list of template accommodations for each course at the beginning of every term.
    • For tests or midterms scheduled during the term, please request accommodations at least 10 business days before an upcoming test or midterm.
    • For final exams, the deadlines to request accommodations are published in the University academic calendars for both undergraduate and graduate students.
    • Note that MEC is not able to accommodate requests for test or exam accommodations made less than five (5) business days before the test or exam.
    • Note that some accommodations are pre-approved or self-serve while others are pending and require approval from your PMC Coordinator.
    • Your approved accommodations for a course will show up in your professor’s Ventus Faculty Portal.
    • You also have the option to opt-out of accommodations for a course.
  4. Meet with each professor or lab instructor in an in-person or virtual meeting to discuss which of your template accommodations are applicable to the course and how they will be implemented. For example, if you do not have any fixed duration tests or exams in the course, the exam accommodations will not be applicable.
    • If you have exam accommodations, discuss with your professor about submitting a Notice of Examination (NoE) to the McIntyre Exam Centre (MEC).
    • If you need a peer note-taker, kindly ask your professor to make an announcement in class and/or Brightspace for a volunteer.
  1. Contact your PMC Coordinator if there are any issues with your accommodations at any time during the term.

Letters of Accommodations (LoAs)

Letters of Accommodation(s) are automatically generated by Ventus once you have requested your accommodations (in Ventus) for an academic term and they have been approved by your PMC coordinator.

Note that your course instructors are issued a copy of this letter via the Ventus Factulty portal. You do not need to forward a copy to them.

To view your LoAs…

  1. Navigate to the “Letters” tab.
  2. From the course dropdown, select a course for which your coordinator has issued an LoA and click the View button.
  3. The Letter of Accommodation will load with a Print button for you to print a hard copy or print to PDF
