PMC – YESP Life Skills Workshops
The PMC has partnered with the YMCA’s Youth Education Supports Program (YESP) to offer a series of life skill workshops in the Winter 2026 semester. Workshops are facilitated by the YESP.
Be sure to review our meeting guidelines before attending your first workshop.

When and Where
- Fridays from 1:00 – 2:00pm, starting January 16 and Wednesday, January 21.
- All Friday installments of the PMC-YESP workshop series will take place virtually, via Zoom.
- On Wednesday, January 21 we will meet in-person in 3038 Nicol Building.

Workshop Schedule
- Friday, January 16: Goal Setting
- Learn to apply the SMARTER technique for setting goals and how to track your progress over time. Explore metrics data to track improvement over time and make realistic decisions and learn about common barriers to achieving your goals and strategies to overcome these challenges.

- WEDNESDAY, January 21: Effective Communication
- Join us IN-PERSON and elevate your communication skills! You will gain insight into various communication models, enabling you to identify the most effective strategies for conveying your message. You’ll enhance your verbal communication skills covering key areas such as inner speech, public speaking, panel discussions, group settings, and one-on-one interactions. Through hands-on activities, you’ll learn respectful communication strategies and practice giving and receiving feedback in a supportive environment.

- Friday, January 23: Nutrition and Exercise
- Did you know there are trillions of microbes living in our guts? Join us to learn how to provide good bacteria to your body to maximize your gut health. Explore how to read food labels to make informed food choices and nutritious meals. Gain insights on how physical exercise is important to maintain good health and study/life balance.

- Friday, January 30: Budgeting Skills (for Post-Secondary)
- Are you having trouble managing your money with all the expenses incurred in your post-secondary education? This workshop offers strategies to help you make the most of your financial resources such planning for rent and utilities bills, student discounts for transit passes, meal planning, reusing textbooks for lower cost or having a saving account to grow emergency funds.

- Join us to transform your approach to meal planning and grocery shopping! In this interactive workshop, we will talk about how to plan meals effectively by saving favourite recipes, generating grocery lists, and creatively reusing meals. You’ll also pick up practical tips for healthier grocery shopping, including:
- Planning ahead to avoid food waste
- Prioritizing fresh produce
- Navigating the store wisely to avoid processed foods
- Reducing waste with reusable shopping bags
- Making informed choices that support healthy eating habits
