Before beginning your studies at the Institute of Political Economy where did you study and what program(s) were you enrolled in?
In Spring 2022, I completed a medial in Philosophy & Political Studies at Queen’s University in Kingston.
What is it specifically that attracted you to study Political Economy at Carleton?
I was initially attracted to the program because of its interdisciplinary nature that is anchored in political economy. During undergraduate studies, I became interested in 20th century crises of capitalism and the politics of social movements. I soon found a book by Wallace Clement, looked up the program written inside, and realized IPE was the right place for me.
My areas of research interest include…
Deindustrialization; Labour Market Restructuring; Gig Work/Gig Economy; Political Economy of Artificial Intelligence; Postal Banking; Colonial Primary Accumulation; Community and Industrial Unionism.
What activities have you been involved in lately?
My placement was with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) where I researched postal banking and learned from experienced professionals.
What advice would you give to a prospective Political Economy graduate student?
It is inspiring to be a part of the tradition of Canadian Political Economy and build relationships with some of the best thinkers and (most importantly) doers in the country.
