Reflective Practice and Placement Information

All Diploma in Work and Labour and MA in Political Economy with a concentration in Work and Labour Students are required to completed either PECO 5906 or PECO 5907 as part of their program requirements. MA in Political Economy  students are also eligible to take either course as part your program electives. These courses are ONLY open to students who are in programs offered by the Institute of Political Economy.

PECO 5906 [0.5 credit] Reflective Practice on Work and Labour
Through a reflection on their current work environment, it is expected that students that are working would apply the knowledge received to enrich their work place. Students will provide relevant reflections and proposals to enrich their work-practices over the period of one-semester. NOTE:  students must complete PECO 5002 prior to taking this course. It is recommended that students also complete either PECO 5503 or PECO 5504 prior to registering. *Open to students in the Work and Labour programs only*

PECO 5907 [0.5 credit]  Placement in Political Economy
This course offers an opportunity to earn academic credit by engaging in research activities under the supervision of professional researchers in the community. Placement possibilities may be initiated by the student or arranged through community contacts established by the Institute of Political Economy. NOTE:  students in the Work and Labour programs must complete PECO 5002 prior to taking this course. It is recommended that Work and Labour students also complete either PECO 5503 or PECO 5504 prior to registering.

Both courses will require an academic supervisor (IPE cross-appointed faculty member) and  PECO 5907 will require a work  placement supervisor.

PECO 5906 Reflective Practice will be available to students in an established Work and Labour  job. The course will require students to complete a reflective research paper/analytical report and  up to three Reflective Practice Questions papers.

PECO 5907 Placement in Political Economy is available to students who wish to gain practical experience in a Work and Labour environment or in political economy.  The placement will be approximately 7 hours a week for 12 weeks, one Reflective Practice Questions paper and a workplace assignment that will translate into a research paper.
