To All Members of the Carleton Community:
I am pleased to welcome all new and returning faculty, staff and students as well as our new president, Benoit-Antoine Bacon, to Carleton University for the start of the 2018 fall term.
You are all part of a vibrant and caring community and I am confident that your Carleton experience will be a rewarding one and that your contributions will make our community even stronger.
Stable Enrolments and New Programs
Due to past growth, our overall enrolment is up this year. Our recruitment teams continue to do fabulous work in promoting our university to ensure a highly qualified Carleton student community.
I would like to extend a special welcome to our incoming students in the newly launched Bachelor of Media Production and Design as well as the Certificate and Post-Baccalaureate in Professional Writing programs. These programs have been designed to promote creative and critical inquiry and prepare our graduates for engaging and productive careers that will have a positive impact both locally and globally.
Experiential Learning
Experiential learning is a strategic priority for Carleton and the provincial government. It is the application of theory and academic content to real-world experiences in the classroom, the community or the workplace. Research shows that it contributes to student engagement, deeper learning, improved academic outcomes and enhanced work and life skills. We look forward to continuing to work with the Carleton community to expand experiential learning for the benefit of all our students.
We are Here for Good and are off to a great start to the new academic year. I wish you every success in 2018-'19.
Jerry TomberlinInterim Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
