Dr. Gilmore is an internationally respected scholar whose work addresses climate risk, environmental policy and sustainable development. She has contributed to major international scientific assessments, advised governments and NGOs and led interdisciplinary collaborations that connect engineering, policy and community engagement.

As a leading figure in climate adaptation science and policy, she served on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report and in 2025 she was elected to the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. Her research integrates engineering, policy and international affairs, and community engagement to advance equitable climate resilience and adaptation.

In this role, Dr. Gilmore will provide strategic guidance to advance Carleton’s commitments to sustainability and climate action, working with academic and administrative leaders to strengthen environmental stewardship, climate‑focused research and sustainability education.

“Dr. Gilmore brings considerable expertise and a strong commitment to addressing climate challenges. Her leadership will play an important role in strengthening Carleton’s sustainability efforts across campus and I look forward to collaborating with her in this new capacity,” said Provost L. Pauline Rankin.

Carleton has a long-standing record of sustainability leadership, reflected in its carbon‑neutrality goals, investments in sustainable operations and the integration of climate and sustainability themes across teaching, research and experiential learning. The university continues to be recognized nationally and internationally for its comprehensive approach.

Dr. Gilmore’s appointment will help accelerate this momentum by supporting new academic opportunities, expanding partnerships and aligning sustainability initiatives across campus.
