Dr. Matthias Neufang Appointed Deputy Provost

Carleton University Provost and Vice-President (Academic) L. Pauline Rankin has announced the appointment of Dr. Matthias Neufang as deputy provost for a five-year term, effective July 1, 2026.
Dr. Neufang is professor in the School of Mathematics and Statistics and previously served as dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs from 2014 to 2019 during which he led major advances in graduate education. Earlier in his career, he served as associate dean (programs and planning) in the former Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research and as director of the Ottawa‑Carleton Institute of Mathematics and Statistics. Most recently, he held the post of associate dean (graduate affairs) in the Faculty of Science.
“With his significant scholarly and administrative experience, Dr. Neufang brings exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to academic excellence to the role of deputy provost,” said Provost Rankin. “I am confident Matthias will excel in his new position and I very much look forward to working with him.”
Following her administrative leave, Deputy Provost Dr. Catherine Khordoc will return to her position as professor in the Department of French and the School for Studies in Art and Culture (Canadian Studies).
