What is Block Registration?
Some programs have many (or all) of their first-year courses pre-selected for new first year students.
How do I know if my courses have been pre-selected?
The programs that have block registration are listed below. The listings below will tell you if all of your courses are pre-selected or if you have some courses to select.
How do I register for my pre-selected courses?
Each CRN should appear in the Add Class table at the bottom of the “Add or Drop Classes” page on your timetable worksheet. To register, simply click the submit button. You should not delete or substitute any of the CRNs that are preselected for you without consulting with your department.
Programs with Block Registration
- Bachelor of Architecture
As a new BAS student, many of your first-year courses have been pre-selected. You should not delete or substitute any of the CRNs that are preselected for you without consulting with the School of Architecture.
To complete your registration, you should add
- ARTH 1200 [Fall] and a tutorial
- ARTH 1201 [Win] and a tutorial
- 1.0 credit free elective(s) of your choice.
A list of suggested tutorials for the Art History courses can be found the School’s website.
- Bachelor of Information Technology
If you have been admitted without advanced standing, you will find most of your courses already pre-selected. Do not delete or substitute any of the CRNs that are preselected for you without consulting with the School of Information Technology.
In addition to your preselected courses,
- NET students will need to add 0.5 credit for the Arts & Humanities elective in the fall term.
- IMD students will need to add 1.0 credit for the Arts & Humanities electives (fall and winter) and 0.5 credit for the Programming I elective (winter).
- IRM students will need to add 1.0 credit (fall and winter for courses required in the minor program on record or French language course (FREN course codes only will be accepted).
- OSS students all your courses are already pre-selected.
- Bachelor of Engineering
Before beginning your registration, new first-year Engineering students should refer to the Bachelor of Engineering course selection guide and the Academic Support website.
If you who have been admitted without advanced standing or language requirements, you will find your core engineering, math and science courses already pre-selected. You will have to register in the appropriate Complementary Studies elective(s) (if applicable to your program).
