Biography
Dr. Alina Shaikhet received her Ph.D. from the School of Computer Science at Carleton University in 2017, and she was awarded the Senate Medal for outstanding academic achievement. She joined the faculty in 2020.
Born in a small city in Ukraine and surrounded by the richness and diversity of Ukrainian culture, Alina developed a deep fascination for visual arts. It didn’t take long for her to see that math and art could not exist independently. Driven by a desire to share her visions with others, she was soon mixing equations with watercolours and weaving fractals into a digital landscape. Alina continued her education in Computer Science and Visual Arts and did her research in the field of Computational Geometry and Animation.
Dr. Alina Shaikhet specializes in teaching first- and second-year computer science courses, with a focus on algorithm design, data structures, and web development. She has created countless visualizations for educational purposes and animated numerous algorithms, making the complex world of Computer Science more understandable.
