Support Resources
We collaborate with faculty, staff and community partners to provide comprehensive support for our students as they navigate their way through university life and provide resources to our faculty and staff to help support our students.
Student Support Resources
We encourage members of the Carleton community to view our documents electronically. However, if you would like to request printed copies of these documents, please use the form below.
Student Referral Guide
The Student Referral Guide helps members of the Carleton community learn about the wide range of services and programs for students and quickly refer them to the appropriate office.
Student Referral Form
This printable form helps front-line staff refer students to the right office with contextual notes. Support offices, departments and units are encouraged to print it as needed.
Supporting Students in Distress
We all care about our students’ mental health. The Supporting Students in Distress guide helps faculty and staff recognize when a student is in distress and respond effectively to a student needing support.
Resource Guide for Mental Health and Wellness
We offer various accessible resources and services for students to manage their mental health. This interactive resource guide is designed to be flexible, allowing students to use supports in combination or as needed.
Responding to Disclosures of Sexual Violence
If someone discloses sexual violence to you, your reaction can influence their next steps. The Responding to Disclosures of Sexual Violence guide explains the impacts of sexual violence and how to respond appropriately.
Formally Reporting an Experience of Sexual Violence
If someone has experienced sexual violence, they can choose their next steps. If they decide to file a formal complaint under the Sexual Violence Policy, this step-by-step guide outlines the process.
Ask Me Campaign
The Ask Me campaign runs at the beginning of fall and winter terms to help welcome students (back) to campus. You can help welcome new and returning students to Carleton by requesting a button to wear and a sign to display in your office.
Additional Mental Health Resources
Mental Health and Wellness Website
The Mental Health and Wellness website provides students with valuable tools and resources to understand, manage and improve their mental health and well-being while at university. The student experience at Carleton expands beyond academics, our students balance transitions, relationships, academic commitments, financial pressures, and extra-curricular activities and this website introduces students to skills they need to explore their mental health and support a friend in distress. Students can also use the Wellness Services Navigator to create a curated list of mental health and wellness resources that are available both on and off campus.
Counselling Services
Counselling Services provides a wide range of accessible mental health services that align with our stepped care approach to student wellness. Services include single-session counselling, brief individual counselling, group counselling, psycho-educational events and programs, workshops and online resources.
Residence Counselling
Residence Counselling and Wellness is a satellite office of Health and Counselling Services open exclusively to Carleton students living in residence during the Fall and Winter terms. The office is located in 131 Renfrew Building (on the main floor, close to the rear entrance).
Submit a Care Report
If you are concerned about a student and are looking to connect them with resources and support, you are encouraged to submit a Care Report. The Care and Support team will reach out as required and provide the appropriate support and guidance to the student.
