The Loeb Building recognizes the financial contributions made to Carleton by Ottawa’s Loeb family. It houses offices for the Faculty of Public Affairs, as well as various academic departments, a cafeteria and lounge, classrooms and laboratories.

It is also home to the University’s Music department with its extensive collection of musical instruments, scores and periodicals.

Designated Parking

Three designated spaces in front of the Social Sciences Research Building. Six designated spots on level 3.

Exterior Entrance

Accessible exterior entrance located on levels 1 and 3. Only level 2 has automatic door opener.

Tunnel Access

Two tunnel entrances: accessible via Southam Hall and via the direction of the Steacie Building or the University Centre.

Elevators

Three accessible elevators in Towers B, C, and D. Services levels 1 to 8. Only one elevator services the ninth level.

Washrooms

Accessible washrooms on the first floor; women’s washroom on level 4 and men’s washroom on level 5.

Telephones

Levels 1 and 2.

Classroom Areas

Most classrooms and laboratories are accessible.

Study Areas

Some spaces on first and second levels, outside Loeb Cafe, Map Library, and B236.

Food/Beverages

Vending machines on second level and Loeb Cafe on first level.

Existing Obstacles

Loeb Lounge not wheel chair accessible; need more accessible washrooms; Loeb Cafe could be better designated to allow easy access for wheelchair users.

Remarks/Hints

First level exterior entrance is a good drop-off point. Depending on the student’s needs, the University Centre cafeteria may be more accessible. Use Loeb Building to get to the Social Sciences Research Building in the winter, since the latter is not connected to the tunnel system.
