by Dr. Jan Douwe van der Ploeg, Professor of Rural Sociology at Wageningen University, the Netherlands.

Jan Douwe van der Ploeg is actively involved in several farmers’ initiatives such as the new ‘environmental cooperatives’ in the Netherlands.  He is co-editor of Living Countrysides: Rural Development Processes in Europe – The State of the Art (Elsevier 2002).  Dr. Van der Ploeg will talk about European perspectives on local production of food and services, along with new marketing structures.
