“Competing Models of Asian Integration in Light of EU Experience” with Dr Hungdah Su, Professor and Jean Monnet Chair at National Taiwan University and Director General of European Union Centre in Taiwan.
In spite of the current Eurozone crisis, the European Union has continued to widen and deepen its integration. In parallel, Asian integration has also been evolving. In the past decade, following the financial tsunami and the increasingly active US policy toward Asia, competition between various integration strategies in Asia has intensified, especially with an accelerating rise of the People’s Republic of China. Dr. Su will compare different strategies for Asian integration and their political implications for regional politics, placing them in a comparative perspective with European integration experience between 1945 and 1974.
Since August 2010, Dr. Su is Director General of the European Union Centre in Taiwan and a full-time Jean Monnet Chair Professor at the National Taiwan University. He is Chief Editor of the Series, “European Union Studies in Taiwan,” (EUTW Publications) and a council member of the Jean Monnet Foundation for Europe in Lausanne, Switzerland. His areas of expertise include European Union Study, Regionalism and Asian Integration, International Organizations and history of International Relations. He has published several books and numerous journal articles.
All are welcome to attend the lecture. There is no registration required for this event.
Coffee and cookies will be available.
