Poster for Claire Farago LectureThe Institute for Comparative Studies in Literature, Art, and Culture is excited to announce the upcoming lecture by Professor Claire Farago. Professor Farago is an Art Historian and Professor Emerita at University of Colorado Boulder specializing in Early Modern art, theory, and criticism, as well as museum and collecting practices. Her talk titled, “Defining an Ecological Approach to Art History: On the History of Human Exceptionalism,” examines and identifies 16th century articulations of humanness that drew upon Aristotelian cognitive distinctions between humans and animals.

The lecture will be hosted as an online event and is scheduled for Thursday, February 10, 2022, at 4:00 pm. The event will be hosted via Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent to you upon registration. Please register by emailing

Following the lecture, graduate students are invited to join Professor Farago in a closed discussion session from 6:00-7:30pm. We encourage participants to come prepared with a question regarding the lecture, topic, or broader context. Upon registration, students will receive a recent publication related to Professor Farago’s lecture so as to better prepare students for the discussion.
