2010-2011 ArtsOne Clusters
School for Studies in Art and Culture
SSAC is offering courses in three ArtsOne clusters in 2010-2011. The courses being offered have been highlighted (***), but include FILM 1000 and three FYSMs.
Below is a brief description of the ArtsOne program and the three clusters involving SSAC courses.
What is ArtsOne?
ArtsOne is a unique program at Carleton University. It is designed to combine the resources of a large university with the benefits that come from studying in small classes.
ArtsOne students are part of a group of up to 100 first-year students who share the same courses, instructors, and class schedule. Students in this program begin their Bachelor of Arts (BA) studies taking four first-year credits that are linked together by a common theme. The courses that make up for the four credits are called a cluster.
Each of the courses contributes to a student’s understanding of the theme selected. Three of the four credits come from lecture-based courses that also have smaller tutorial or discussion groups. The fourth course is a small First-year Seminar that usually meets twice a week. ArtsOne students can choose their fifth course from among those that are available to all BA students. At the end of the ArtsOne year, students move into the second year of a BA program.
